It takes guts to walk up to about 500 people and tell them that happiness is impossible. Menno de Bree (1974) did just that, and got applauded for it too.

We should not aim for happiness, but minimize our unhappiness.

Menno starts by stating that people seem to think that everyone can achieve happiness. If not right now, you just have to change things in your life and you will be happy later. Being happy becomes a preliminary and you have to make a big effort to achieve it. There is no place for unhappy losers.
